A Blog is a record of your thoughts, opinions, or experiences that you put on the internet for other people to read.
To simply put, Blogging is everything or anything you put out or published on the internet for other people to see or read.

Many people create their own blog and run their blog successfully.
You can also earn money from blogging. And if you are wondering what if you started your own blog, but how to make earn from your blog, I have got you covered too.
Here are common ways how bloggers make money from their blogging business.
- Make money by placing ads on the website
- By promoting affiliate products with their affiliate links
- By selling their own products – that can be physical products, services, tutorials, courses, etc.
- By advertising with Google Ads or Bing Ads or any advertising platforms.
You need to understand a bit about SEO (search engine optimization)- you will find SEO guides and tutorials on Google, YouTube, Blogs.
The most important thing is that your content should be of good quality and give value to the readers and that is what Google wants and looks for.
The quality of your blog and how much traffic you generate is what matters for earning through blogs.
Here is the secret:
The way to make money by blogging is to find the problems and providing practical solutions to those problems.
Steps To Start A Blog Post
1. How To Pick A Niche For Your Blog
A Niche is a small and specific focused and targeted area that you serve particularly well.
It is a specific category of something which Many people emphasize picking a niche or topic that you have an interest in or are passionate about because you need to be consistently posting content relating to the topic you choose.
If you blog about something that you love, your readers will feel your passion too.
However, what if you write about something that doesn’t have a scope for marketing at all? Like sharing your adventures in Disneyland?
You might have many followers and readers but you have to depend only on ads to monetize your blog and it will take a long time to make a good amount of money out of your blog.
If you are reading this, then I know either you want to start a blog, or you already started blogging but it didn’t take off as you expect it to be.
Either way, your purpose is to make money, right? So, I won’t keep you running around the bush and waste your time nor mine!
I blog because I want to make money. Yes, I want to make a living out of my blogs!
For me, reading and writing have been a passion that I am unable to quench because even before my schooling starts, books are my passion.
When I was in Grade-I, I read the whole of a small booklet of the English Dictionary to improve my vocabularies! Till my adulthood, not even a single piece of paper was thrown or taken without my permission at my home!
Writing and reading become a part of my life. Well, this might not be the case with everyone. Each one of us has our own passion in life.
You see, when you are passionate about things, there are sparks and liveliness in the way you talk about them.
You are also more than eager to share with everyone. So, it is easier to get a warm connection with other people.
But… even if it’s not your passion, you can still start your own blog and be successful BECAUSE the secret to making money blogging is talking about what people want and searching for, and giving them the solutions to the problems!
You can pick any niche topic on what your readers want and looks for, and be specific – See the problems and give solutions.
So, the question arises – How do you pick a niche topic?
The following are the Evergreen Niches. They are called evergreen niches – topics that are never out-dated and are needed in our daily lives and as long as human beings existed.
The list is made according to the highest and most popular sought-after topics.
- Finance and Wealth
- Health and Fitness
- Working from home
- Personal Development
- Diet and Nutrition
These niches can be further broken down into smaller/micro niches that focus on only one or two particular topics or things.
For Example: The Weight loss niche is very broad and competition is very high (means- many other people are in this niche too), you can pick a sub-niche for something like How To Lose Weight By Simple Exercises As A Beginner and so on…
Try to focus your blog only on the many simple and easy to do on the go, no special preparations needed exercises you could come upon and give clear and easy to understand tutorial on how these exercises work, how they burn the body fat which helps to lose weight, and so on. You got my point!
Or it can be about Gardening. Now if you take the word Gardening, it’s like a marketplace. There are thousands of topics that come under gardening.
Like, gardening can be about flowers- what particular flower- it can be a dalia, tulip, rose, etc. the list is endless.
Or it can be about tomato gardening – what breed of tomato- and so on. you got my point here.
Now, make a list of those micro-niches in a notepad. Take as much list as you can make. The more the better!
2. How To Do Keyword Research For Your Blog
Some people think this is the hardest part to do.
And yes, it’s not easy to do keyword research on topics especially when you don’t want to spend a lot of money on keyword research tools.
One of the main reasons why 99.9% of people fail with their blogging business is because they underestimate the power and importance of keyword research.
They just start a blog in the hope to make money out of it, but without properly researching the keyword they are going to target.
Your blog website won’t make you any money if you ignore doing the keyword research unless you are running a local business blog with a product that is new in the marketplace or you have no competition.
How To Do A Keyword Research
To do your keyword research for your blog that will make you money, you need to have a keyword research tool.
It’s okay if you cannot afford a high-end keyword research tool like Ahrefs, although most successful marketers heavily depend on Ahrefs metrics, you can still try it out for 7 days with $7.
SEMrush is the best alternative to Ahrefs and it’s used and trusted by 7 million people in the world. You can use it as a trial for 7 days for free.
These two keyword research tools are more accurate and you can use them independently.
The free tools you must consider using are:
Keyword Surfer which is a Chrome extension, it’s 100% free to use. You can find it by searching in Google searches. All you have to do is to install it in your chrome extension.
Another tools is to use Google Ads > Keyword Ideas.
Now after you select your research tool, it’s time for the main work.
Let’s do the keyword research with Keyword Surfer, which is a free chrome extension.
Let’s take the example of gardening again.
Suppose you have an interest in Rose flower gardening.
You will do keyword research like this.
As you enter the words, you will see that Google automatically completed the word and also show the words related to what you searched.
That is a good indicator that people are interested and searching for this particular keyword.
You see that the word ‘ How to grow rose’ has 2,900 searches only in the US alone.
When you scrolled down, you will see some websites which rank with this keyword.
On the left marking, it shows the estimated monthly traffic only within the US, and then the second red marking is the number of words of the article written about the keyword you are looking for.
On the right side, you will see a graph like this. Since you already know the amount of traffic the website is getting and the number of words used in the blog article, select the ‘Keyword’.
Here is where the magic happens. This is how you know if you will be able to rank on the first page of Google and how you can earn from your blog depends on this matric.
Now you will be able to see, the number of traffic that particular website has driven, the numbers of words, and the ‘Exact Keyword’.
Here, out of the 8 websites, only three sites have the exact keywords you are searching for. That is good.
However, seeing the amount of traffic it already has, and the articles in the blog, you have almost no chance to rank on the front page unless you run ads.
So, you can go now go and refer to the keyword ideas shown on the right side.
Now, narrow down your search to ‘how to grow rose cuttings’, you will see the results as below:
BAM! Zero results! That means, there is no exact keyword. And that too, with 5,400 searches within the US alone.
Do you think you can be on the front page of Google with this particular keyword? I hope you can.
You can now take this keyword, write an awesome article related to this keyword and also add the different keywords which are shown in the keyword ideas as and when appropriate.
You can even make a video version of your post too.
Do this process for any other keyword.
I hope you understand how to do any keyword research for your blog now.
And if you find it difficult to understand, which you might if you are just starting or trying to create your first blog, then read again until you understand it fully.
There is no shortcut. You need to understand this process fully.
In the end, you might come out with maybe 35 or 40 different pages related to rose gardening.
Someone looking for gardening solutions came upon your site, find it helpful, and share it with other people. Gradually, your visitors increase in numbers.
However, you need to understand all these won’t happen overnight! If you are consistent with great quality content, your blog will gain momentum with time.
In fact, you need not necessarily made a 30 or 40 pages website. One very effective way of doing it is also creating a one-page website.
This gives you more advantage if your main purpose is doing affiliate marketing with a blog.
3. How To Get A Domain Name And Web Hosting For Your Blog
There are some free platforms like WordPress.com (WordPress.org is not the same site as WordPress.com even if the name looks familiar), Blogger, Medium, Wix, etc where you can start your blogging journey.
Many bloggers used these platforms and you would find many people advising you to use these platforms.
But, you are not in control of your content and it always come with limitations and you never know what is going to happen next!
And when sharing your post, they come with the site extension name along with yours. That is, you won’t be having ‘yourwebsite.com’ name only!
Let me explain…
I don’t want to take any risk on all my hard work and energy. To see one day, that my site is blocked or is taken down without any warning or notification? Because I am using a free platform that I have no control of? And why should you take the risk too?
If you are using free platforms, you have no right over your site. You have to follow whatever rights and terms of condition the site provider imposed!
If you are seriously considering starting your own blog, then I would recommend you to purchase your own domain name and web hosting.
I would recommend you use Bluehost for domain registration and web hosting for the best value for your money.
It provides a free SSL Certificate and you will get a free domain registration for the first year.
Whatever web host you choose, make sure SSL is provided free otherwise you need to buy one and they are not that cheap either.
What Is A Domain Name?
A domain is your identity on the Web. It is a naming system that allows people to easily navigate the servers and web pages.
It is like your Home Address.
Example : .com, .org, .info, etc.
What Is Web Hosting?
A web host or web hosting is a business that provided the services needed for the website or web page to be viewed on the internet.
It is where the websites are hosted or stored on special computers called Servers.
To make it simple, a Web host is like the physical location of your home address (the land).
I would strongly recommend you not buy a domain name alone because you need hosting for that domain and if you buy it separately, you have to pay for registration and stuff like that.
I would recommend you go for the unlimited sites as it will help you save money in the future as you need not spend more bucks for upgrading your plan and they are costlier when you add another site later on.
How To Choose A Domain Name
You can choose and use any name or word as your domain name.
Check out these points to choose a good domain name :
- Make it easy to type and remember – Having a catchy and memorable domain name that is easy to spell it out and say is essential.
- Use keywords and phrases that people search for as it helps in improving your ranking in the search engine.
- If the domain name you want is already taken, adding simple words like ‘a’, ‘my’ or ‘the’ might help.
- Keep it simple – As far as a domain name is concerned, the more simple and descriptive is your domain name, the more people will find it easier to relate to what they want when they search for anything. So, keep your domain name simple. If possible, don’t use complex words.
- Target your area – If your business is local, you can include the name of your city or state in it specifically.
- Avoid numbers and hyphens – Hyphens and numbers are often misunderstood because people who hear your website address might not know if it’s a numeric number or a word or they can misplace or forget the hyphens.
- Use an appropriate domain name extensions – extension like .com is the easiest to remember. You can use .info if your website is about information, or .org if it’s for an organization, .biz for business, and so on.
Get started here with Bluehost and get a domain name free for the first year.
4. How To Set Up Web Hosting With Your Domain
Setting up a Web hosting is easy even for a non-techie person even though it is a bit more practical and needs steps that can be explained well with the instructions given in the web hosting itself.
You can follow the instructions as shown and your website or follow this step-by-step guide here.
Once you decided on your domain name, head over to Bluehost.
You will be taken to the Bluehost homepage. Click on the ‘Get Started’ button.
You will then see the plans which are for 36 months. Choosing the 36 months option will give you more discount.
And it’s the best choice too because before you realize it, one year will fly by so fast.
So, at least for 3 years you need not worry about renewing it or forgetting to renew it each month if you go for the monthly plans. It will also cost you much more. And the renewal rate is also high.
You will need to pay more than double the initial price you paid. In fact, the renewal rate is high in all hosting providers. That is one of the dirty secret tricks of almost all hosting providers which I don’t like.
Enter the domain name of your choice. If you are not able to decide what your domain would be, you have the option to create your domain name later on. This is a good advantage you will find with Bluehost.
When you click on the Next button, you will be taken to the billing page.
First, you need to fill in your name and other details. Enter an email id that is valid and which you will be regularly using because the billing receipt and other communication will be sent in that email id.
How to get Bluehost by 70% discount ($2.65/months)
I accidentally discover this. And it works every time I tried.
As you see in the pricing package, if you opt for the 36 months period, you will be charged $3.95/month. That is a 65% discount shown on the homepage of Bluehost.
But here is a trick to get it by $2.65/month without a coupon code. That is a 70% discount!
Just hover your mouse to the top as if to close the window. This will trigger a pop-up that will show like this. If you try to do this at the beginning, nothing will pop up.
You have to go to the process of entering your details and then hover your mouse to the top as if you are trying to close the homepage. This will trigger a banner to pop-up like the image you see below.
You then have to start all over again by clicking on the Claim Savings. But you are saving $1.30 for each month. It’s worth a try!
Like I said, if you didn’t get the pop-up for a 70% discount, you have to wait for some more time, may be a 2 or 3 minutes more. I am not sure about the exact time of wait which triggers the discount pop-up.
Keep on trying until the pop-up eventually shows. It will definitely show because I have tried this trick 5 times to make sure it is working and it does work every time.
Once you go through the process again, you will see the Package Extras.
By default, the Codeguard Basic and Sitelock Security will be selected. You just need to unselect them. Your site will still have basic protection without them. They are extras. If you want to go ahead and purchase them, it’s up to you, though.
But, as I said, even if you unselect them, your site will still have protection. And there is a free SSL plugin you can install.
Recheck everything and then tick the ‘I Agree’ at the bottom for the terms and services of Bluehost, and then click the ‘Submit’ button.
Now you are done with your purchase.
Follow the on-screen instructions to create a password.
5. How To Install WordPress And Choose A Theme
Unlike other hosting providers, Bluehost automatically installs WordPress and you need not do anything.
All you have to do is click, ‘Log in‘ and choose a theme.
The next screen will ask if you are building your website for Personal or Business reasons. This will help in providing you with accurate recommendations from Bluehost to help on your website building journal.
You can choose any theme and if you are not satisfied you can change the theme as many times as you want.
6. How To Customize Your WordPress Website
On the left-hand sidebar, you will find navigation links that allow you to customize your site. Click on each tab and explore the options.
There are literally 1000s of free themes and plugins you can choose and use.
You can also install Elementor so that it will be easier to customize your page.
Click on the Plugins > Add New > Enter Elementor in the search button > Install.
Do the same for other plugins which are essential to have for every website regardless of what type of business you are doing with your website.
Here is one thing you have to keep in mind. The main difference in using a page or a post is that with a post people can add comments.
And don’t lose heart if you couldn’t get it right the first few times, it’s okay. I literally installed my WordPress ten times before I get it right! That is how expert I am (lol).
NOTE: If you are creating more than one website with WordPress, you can use the same username.
Don’t feel overwhelmed! If I can do it, so can you! Even much better!
6. how To Write Your First Blog Post
After you set up your website with WordPress, what is left is to start writing!
You need to do your keyword research again on the related topics. Do your keyword research as we mentioned earlier.
Narrowing on your niche and writing your blog article based on the targeted keyword is the key to driving organic traffic to your website and reaching your specific audience.
Blogging is not something that will bring you overnight success instantly. It’s like running a marathon.
Initially, you need to invest your time massively. As much as you gave your time for your job or maybe more! You need to give efforts to make your blog run successfully.
And this blogging thing does work. No doubt about it! Period.
Generally, for a new website with at least 30 pages or more, it took on average 90 weeks to rank in Google unless it is something very specific and high-demand site.
However, big authority websites with tons of traffic can even rank as fast as within 24 hours.
You don’t have to be an expert in starting a blog. It doesn’t have to be perfect either.
You can write on any topic that interests you or on those that you have excellent knowledge about but after you do your keyword research.
Originality is the key here. Your ‘Why’ this blog is started should focus on solving the problems and giving value to your readers.
You can search and read those blog posts which are related to your niche and take ideas from them. Do not copy them. Instead, create another post that is much better than what you saw and read.
Here are some TIPs on writing your blog content without wasting much time.
If you are just starting, do not rush yourself. You can take a good amount of time say a month or two to research and write your content. It’s entirely up to you to decide.
After you are done, proof-read them, and also if possible you can ask a friend or two to read them.
Install Grammarly (It’s Free) software which will automatically help you to correct any grammatical errors in your writing. It comes with a Free and Pro version. It really is a real deal and saves time!
The benefit of blogging is that, once you are set and started ranking, you need very little additional work – just updating or improving your content once or twice in 3 months or so.
Content Alone is Not the King anymore. What is most important is that YOU MUST UNDERSTAND YOUR AUDIENCE.
Your ‘WHY’ you started blogging in the first place should be BASED ON THE NEEDS AND SOLUTIONS OF THE PROBLEMS OF YOUR READERS. Because Your WHY is the only thing that will separate you from the other crowd.
7. how To Get Traffic To Your Blog Website
By traffic, it means people visiting your site. The more traffic you get on your blog, the better chance you have to make money.
Generally, you need good traffic to be able to generate a steady income. The sort of traffic that is related to the products you are promoting or interested in your blog.
Again, the sure way to drive organic traffic to your blog post is to create articles based on a good keyword that you have researched.
Some common ways you can drive traffic to your blog in addition to the organic traffic is to promote your blog is sharing it on social media, word of mouth, building an audience or followers, collaborating with other bloggers, YouTube videos, etc.
It takes time to start a successful blog that can make you money. You need to be patient and persistent in what you are doing.
Every successful blogger we see now also started just like you. They have made lots of mistakes too. But what sets them apart is that they learned from those mistakes and work on them.
I want to encourage you that even though you didn’t see the fruit of your hard work if you continue on with the process I stated above, you will master the skill well and your blog will gradually start generating income.
And as long as your main focus is to give value to your readers and your content is of good quality that gives solutions, you will gain traffic.
8. How To Monetize Your Blog
Here comes the question you have been waiting for!
When you start a blog business, you obviously intend to make money out of it.
Otherwise, what is the point in going through all those hardships where you got nothing in return!
Here are ways you can make money from your blog website:
- Get affiliate links for those products related to your niche from marketplaces like Clickbank, Digistore24, ShareAsale, Amazon, you name it. There are hundreds of companies that want people to promote their product because it saves them the money they spent on advertisements.
- By promoting or selling your own product. It can be ebooks, printables, themes, courses, tutorials, coaching, etc.
- By writing sponsored articles
- By putting Google AdSense in your website when you generate a good amount of traffic from your website.
- Adding more and more valuable content that is niche-specific but with low competition.
