SEO or Search Engine Optimization is the one thing that matters the most for your website to be seen in the search engines.
There is no hard and fast rule or 100% guarantee that if you do this, you will rank on top of a Google-type blueprint.
However, certain basic tips which you can easily do needs to be considered seriously so that your site is optimized to be seen in the search engines.
Here Are Most Important SEO Tips Every Website Should Use
1. Proper Keyword Research
Before you even write your content, do proper keyword research first by using tools like Keywords Everywhere or Jaaxy or WordTracker (they are not the best, but they do are the most affordable ones and also give good results) if you don’t want to spend extra on the more complex but accurate ones like SEMrush.
2. Mention Your Keyword With In The Blog Accordingly
Include your keyword in the site title, meta-description, tagline, blog categories, page titles, and page content whenever it is applicable. It is essential to do this.
It’s not necessary to repeat the same word again and again. Instead, you can very well use synonyms of the word.
3. Make Your Website Stand Out For One Thing
It’s not that you cannot add other contents or topic to your website – in fact, you must add anything which is related to your site.
What you should focus on is the main Theme for which your site will be known. That is, you should have a primary topic that is most relevant to your website. It all come about with your niche.
However, niche can be a marketplace and not specific. The best result will come from choosing a specific niche.
For example, dropshipping is a marketplace and it’s very vast. But when you specifically know what you want to dropship with and what product or item, it becomes a specific niche. Like you want to do dropshipping with print on demand embroidery hats with Printful and integrated with Etsy.
4. Set Your Permalinks to ‘Post Name’
Some sites have permalinks structures that contain numbers and characters and it looks ugly and unpleasant to see.
So instead of having a URL like this:
It should look more like this:
How To Set Up The Permalinks?
Go to the menus on the left side of your WordPress and select the Setting > Permalinks > Post name
5. Remove anything that slows down your website
Your page load time does matter a lot because if it takes forever to load, people will bounce back immediately. So, get rid of anything that slows down your website. Look out for any unnecessary plugins, flash graphics, or any media and delete them.
Compress your images by using Smush, which is a free downloadable plugin. Go to your dashboard > Plugins > Add new > Search for Smush and you will see it. Or you can download it from here.
For a larger image, you can use photoshop to resize it without much effect on the image quality. Also, update the installed plugins when intimated to do so.
6. Name Your Images With The Blog Title
Add the title of your post in the image alt attribute, title, and description. Rename your image file if it doesn’t reflect your main keywords.
For example: It should be like this – SEO-tips.jpg instead of 1234.jpg.
In case you haven’t, you need not delete and rename your images, here is the easy way on how you can rename your images.
7. Don’t Constantly Change Your Blog Title Or URL Name
The age of your URL is a very important factor in your site’s ranking.
It takes time to rank in the search engine ranking if your site is new. The average time for ranking is around 90 days.
Once your website is optimized, you should not touch it for at least 90 days because you have to allow Google to crawl your website and rank it accordingly.
After the 90 days are over, if your website didn’t rank, you have to tweak or make changes after researching what works best and what didn’t work.
8. Focus On Your Readers
Write contents that are useful for your readers. Don’t be scared to over-deliver valuable information. When you create content putting your readers first, you’ll be enhancing the user experience and building trust with your audience because search engines follow users.
Many people use article spinner like Spin Rewriter to produce more content. If you ever use one, do re-reading before publishing it as your readers know very well if it was written by humans or a robot!
Always go for quality over quantity.
9. Link To Other Pages On Your Site
Interlink your pages to each other according to the relevancy of the contents you have within your site as and when necessary to provide a better understanding to your readers.
For example, in this article, I interlinked the niche to my other article on a niche topic. This is good for SEO.
10. Link To Other Websites With Relevant Content
It is a good thing to link your page with another site. However, you have to do it sparingly, as each outbound link is a “vote” for another site.
The best way is if you can contribute helpful comments in forums or another side that links back your profile to your website. Remember, not to spam anyone.
11. Have Other Trusted Websites Link To You
Inbound links or backlinks are essential to SEO. If you create excellent and unique content, others will link back to you. Or you can also ask the site owner to link to you. Another thing you can do is start to quest posts on other websites also.
12. Update Your Content Frequently
It is important to update your content frequently as it helps in your site’s ranking but you have to do so with valuable content.
I must warn you that, you must not update your site with fresh content just for the sake of doing it. Don’t post crappy or copy-paste something to your site. Your audience knows you and they know very well whether it comes from you or not!
If you are wondering, how often you should be updating your content, at least once a week is a must if you are really serious. Ideally, two contents would suffice!
13. Make sure your website is indexed in search engines
Search engines will automatically find and index your content though it may take some time especially if your site is fairly new. Make sure engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo are crawling your site so that people can find you online.
Install Google Site XML on your website which will let Google index your site early.
14. Make Your Website Mobile Friendly
Lastly, but not the least, having a mobile friendly website is not only needed, it actually is a must if you want to grow your business.
Most people prefer to use their mobile phone to browse the net for the obvious reason that smartphone users increases drastically and will continue on increasing day by day!
Mobile phones are much more accessible and require lesser effort and almost every household has at least two or three sets.
